Almanac Dance Theater Presents
Leaps of Faith and Other Mistakes
SoBo Studio brings Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, a Philadelphia based contemporary acrobatics company, to perform Leaps of Faith and Other Mistakes July 25th 8PM and July 26th 2PM. SoBo Studio, 74 Cotton Mill Hill #346 (3rd flr)
SoBo Studio is thrilled to host this seventy-five minute show fusing acrobatics, storytelling, and daring physicality that is sure to make you laugh and wonder. In the words of the performers, Leaps of Faith and Other MIstakes is “an absurd and contemplative tapestry of sublime human idiocy, isolationist seafarer cults, and the kinds of people that devote their lives to becoming acrobats”. In this intriguing work, Four hobbyists find each other alone in a world of weirdos, and push themselves to be “exceptional in every moment.” As they purify themselves and adopt an all-white uniform, their trusty sofa becomes a portal for exploration and they set out on the high-seas and leave the world of fast-food and normal people behind. Leaps of Faith and Other Mistakes includes creators and performers Nicole Burgio, Nick Gillette, Ben Grinberg, and Adam Kerbel, with words by Josh McIlvain and music written and performed by Patrick Lamborn. Performances will take place at SoBo Studio, 74 Cotton Mill HIll #346 (3rd flr) Saturday July 25th at 8PM and Sunday July 26th at 2PM. Cost is $15 and advanced tickets can be purchased online at www.sobodance.com or at the door. Advance tickets or reservations are highly recommended as space is limited

No experience necessary! Just come ready to play and challenge yourself. This series will inform anyone who works, performs, or dabbles in time based art and visual arts; dance, theater, clowning, circus, sculpture, animation, etc. We will play with many elements of composition including space, time, quality, focus, groupings, repetition, and more. All of these elements affect an audience’s perception of a performance! How can you grab their attention and keep it? Participants will gain greater compositional awareness through improvisation games, movement exploration and awareness exercises.
Grace Nowakoski has a BA in dance from Wesleyan University. She began her dance studies at the Brattleboro School of Dance at age 3. Grace has taught movement to children, choreographed solo and group dances, and while living in Portland, OR, performed with Liminal Group, in the Dance+ festival, and at Performance Works NorthWest.
