All are welcome at the monthly Improv Jam, organized by the Brattleboro dance community and Vermont Dance Alliance! Live music will be provided. Playroom is open or kids to enjoy while families dance. Suggested donation is $10. After the jam, caravan to Chandler Center for the Arts to see the premier of Passing, a full length dance performance piece exploring the theme of dying.

SoBo Studio is almost 5!!!! To celebrate our birthday, we want to celebrate the community that has supported us along our journey. We are going to award 5 dance class scholarships. 1 to an elder community member, 1 to the parent or guardian of a young child (includes childcare), 1 to an aspiring professional, 1 to a teen, and 1 to a child aged 4 to 7. Inversions for Dance
Sunday December 3rd, 1:00~ 3:00

Want to work on your inversions? Drawing on techniques from Yoga, Capoeira and Breakdance, this workshop will strengthen your core and introduce you to new exercises to improve your headstands, handstands, walking/turning, bridges, ground transitions and more! Some previous movement experience recommended. Please note that this workshop will be part of the Cotton Mill Open Studio and Holiday Sale, so the studio doors will be open for viewing.

Partnering for Dance
Sunday December 10th, 1:00~3:00

This workshop for movers will touch on partnering techniques from Acro Yoga, Ballroom, Contact Improvisation, and Nontraditional Partnering to encourage participants to safely explore weight sharing in new ways. Great for building communication, trust, and group-based creative works.

Workshops with Taliesin

Taliesin Reid Haugh is a performer, teacher, and student who grew up in Cleveland’s art community. His movement training and experience includes Hawkins style modern dance with YARD under the direction of Bill Wade, Horton technique and ballet through CCDT director Michael Medcalf, Stiltwalking and aerial circus techniques with SAFMOD, Breakdance/hiphop with Ground Effects and the Chosen Few crew, training in nontraditional partnering with members of Pilobolus, and nearly two decades of Afro-Brazilian acrobatics dance and percussion with Capoeira Narahari. Training abroad has included dance education in Athens through UNESCO’s International Dance Counsil, Capoeira with Groupo Besouro in Rio de Janeiro, martial arts training with Lanna Muay Thai in Chiang Mai. He performs regionally with Morrisondance and Pickup-Stix stiltwalkers. Taliesin’s primary movement interests are Capoeira, Breakdance, climbing, nontraditional partnering, cyr wheel, Satchidananda yoga and bicycling.

We will start with stretching and gentle movement and then get our bodies moving. Stretching, dancing, play, fun and then quiet rest. Good for any body type and dance ability or lack of. Bring a yoga mat if you have one and dress in comfy clothes.

”I have been a big fan of Let Your Yoga Dance for years and now I am a trained teacher. I trained with Megha Buttenheim  founder of Let Your Yoga Dance.  For me Let Your Yoga Dance Is a combo of exercise, fun, and sometimes spiritual growth or personal clarity. November 11th at 7:30PM at SoBo

Come support artists in their creative process, provide feedback, and connect to your community of art makers and art lovers. The floor is open to all performance genres. Audience members will be provided comment cards and the space to reflect and write. Comment cards can be collected anonymously at the end of the evening or given directly to the artists during our intermission and during the reception immediately following the show. SoBo Studio’s own Super Bee performs at 11am. This fun and interactive dance performance will delight the big and li’l monsters alike and offers an opportunity to learn about “Showtime”, sitting still, dancing wildly, and enjoying a show together in our casual kid friendly community space!
